COMPUTERLINKS AG Deploys Blue Coat Appliances for WAN Optimization and Web Security Around the World

Blue Coat ProxySG Appliances Accelerate Microsoft Exchange, Novell NCP, NFS and Omnitracker by 70 to 1000% and Reduce Bandwidth by 40%

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 22 -- Blue Coat Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BCSI) , a leader in WAN Application Delivery and Secure Web Gateway, today announced that COMPUTERLINKS AG, a global specialist distributor of Internet technology solutions, has selected Blue Coat(R) ProxySG(R) appliances to accelerate the delivery of applications and content across its Wide Area Network (WAN) between its headquarters in Munich, Germany and major branch offices in Frankfurt, Germany; Vienna, Austria; Budapest, Hungary; Bolzano, Italy; and Austin, Texas. In addition, the same ProxySG appliances provide Web security and policy control to protect against malware and Internet threats and manage Web applications.

"A fast and secure transfer of data traffic via our Wide Area Network is increasingly important and contributes directly to costs savings," said Richard Hellmeier, member of the technology board at COMPUTERLINKS AG. "We were able to reduce the bandwidth used by an average of around 40 percent within only eight days of deploying the Blue Coat appliances. On a longer-term basis we expect even greater savings."

Andreas Geibler, department manager for technology at COMPUTERLINKS AG, also confirmed higher transmission rates: "Measurements within our own test laboratory have shown that with Blue Coat ProxySG we can obtain an acceleration by a factor of between 1.7 and 10 when transferring application data over our WAN links -- and by a factor of around 12 in the cases of e-mail via Microsoft Exchange."

In addition to performing WAN optimization, the same ProxySG appliance in each branch office provides fast, secure Internet access for employees. COMPUTERLINKS can enforce policies for Web usage and communications and protect against malware, such as viruses, spyware and malicious code. COMPUTERLINKS plans on deploying Blue Coat ProxySG appliances in other branch offices, with the next one being in Dubai.
