CMG'08 Offers CMG-T: Most Comprehensive Capacity and Performance Management Training for Today's Enterprises

Industry Luminaries Gather to Instruct at One Location

TURNERSVILLE, N.J., May 29 -- The Computer Measurement Group (CMG), the Information Technology professionals responsible for planning, measuring and managing the performance of the world's largest IT infrastructures, announced today that it is offering CMG Training (CMG-T) at the 34th International Computer Measurement Group annual conference (CMG'08) taking place from December 7-12 in Las Vegas, NV at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel.

CMG-T was initiated two years ago to provide a consistent set of tutorials that present information and techniques that are essential to managing IT capacity and quality of service for today's enterprises. The tutorials are taught by industry luminaries and are designed for all levels including "experts" as well as "rookies" that need to quickly "ramp up" in their knowledge of core competencies.

These tutorial sessions provide the focused 'quick-start' that they need to accomplish their responsibilities at work. CMG-T will also give more experienced practitioners the opportunity to learn about areas they haven't dealt with before," said Bill Jouris, CMG '08 Program Chair. The CMG-T program will have seven tutorial sessions that cover a variety of topics.

  The courses include:
  --  Capacity Planning Boot Camp - This popular tutorial introduces
      attendees to the development of capacity plans, using measured
      performance data that is then analyzed and modeled to reveal insights
      into the nature of performance and capacity management data. It is
      taught by Dr. Neil Gunther, an internationally recognized consultant
      who founded Performance Dynamics in 1994. He is the author of three
      books on the subject of capacity planning.
  --  Statistics for Performance Analysis & Capacity Planning - This
      tutorial presents essential statistical analysis techniques that can
      be used to derive knowledge from the measured/monitored performance
      information. It is taught by Ray Wicks who has spent most of his
      career at IBM in the performance analysis and capacity planning end of
      the business in Poughkeepsie and at the Washington Systems Center. He
      is the major contributor to IBM's internal PA & CP tool zCP3000.
  --  Introduction to z/OS Monitoring, Tuning, and the Workload Manager -
      This tutorial is taught by Glenn Anderson, a Consulting Instructor for
      IBM's Systems and Technology Group.  For those responsible for
      monitoring and tuning of a mainframe system, this is the place to
      start.
  --  Unix/Linux CMG Quick Start Course - This tutorial is taught by Adrian
      Cockroft, formerly a distinguished engineer for eBay, and now the
      performance leader at NetFlix. He is the author of four books that
      address computer performance analysis, resource management and
      capacity planning for internet services.  Recently, CMG awarded the A.
      A. Michelson Award to Mr. Cockroft.  Albert Abraham Michelson was
      known for his technical accomplishments in measuring the speed of
      light and for his role as teacher and inspirer of others. CMG presents
      this prestigious award to recognize and encourage the same combination
      of technical excellence and professional contribution found in only an
      exceptional few.
  --  Windows System Performance Measurement and Analysis - This tutorial is
      taught by Jeffrey A. Schwartz, Integrated Services, Inc., a Windows
      performance specialist with an emphasis on SQL Server performance
      issues.  There are a wealth of metrics available from Windows, but
      without this course, it can be very hard to know where to start.
  --  Introduction to TCP/IP Performance Management - This tutorial focuses
      on performance measurement, monitoring and analysis of the network
      protocol that drives the Internet as well as most enterprises today.
      It is taught by Nalini Elkins, the founder of Inside Products, Inc. 
      Ms. Elkins is an industry leader in the area of network performance
      analysis, including IP version 6, which is starting to spread across
      the networked world.
  --  Modeling and Forecasting - This tutorial leverages the measurement and
      analysis techniques to performance "what if" analysis using computer
      performance modeling and forecasting algorithms and techniques. This
      is taught by Dr. Michael Salsburg, the chief architect for real-time
      infrastructure at Unisys Corporation. He has developed patented
      techniques and modeling software that are commercially available
      today. Recently, CMG awarded Dr. Salsburg the Mullen Award for his
      paper titled, "Beyond the Hypervisor Hype." The J. William Mullen
      award is given in memory of past CMG president Bill Mullen. CMG
      presents this award to an individual who exhibits both technical
      excellence and an engaging presentation style.
