SpiderOak Announces New Pricing Structure for Online Storage: $10 Per 100 GB Per Month for Any Number of Devices
CHICAGO, Aug. 21 -- Online backup/storage provider SpiderOak today announced a new $10 per 100GB monthly pricing structure that lowers the cost of backing up, storing, remotely accessing and sharing data using SpiderOak's network. The pricing applies to any combination of Windows, Mac and Linux computers or external storage media, with data from all devices uniquely pooled into a single account and consolidated in a central repository for easy cross-platform management and retrieval.
The SpiderOak service is free for the first 2GB of storage, $10/month from 2 to 100GB, and $10/month for each additional 100GB increment -- all for an unlimited number of devices. Advanced de-duping not available from other providers conserves storage space to eliminate excess costs while also cutting backup time by as much as 90%.
"We offer far more functionality than any other online storage provider, so we entered the market at a higher price point. Since then, we have implemented some innovative back-end technology solutions that have reduced our costs. At the same time, our customer base has reached a healthy critical mass due to the overall acceptance of online storage strategies," said SpiderOak CEO Ethan Oberman. SpiderOak is the only online backup/storage service that offers Windows/Mac/Linux and storage peripheral support, a consolidated data repository for all devices, and access to data from any device backed up by SpiderOak from any Internet-enabled computer. The ability to aggregate multiple devices in a single account also allows users to take advantage of bulk storage rates.
Other features that set SpiderOak apart include secure 'ShareRooms' enabling users to easily share photos, music or any other content with designated friends, family members or co-workers; perpetual file and version storage even for older and deleted files; and an industry-first no-password-storage security policy that prevents even SpiderOak employees from viewing user information including file and folder names.
When SpiderOak introduces a sync feature later this year, it will also be the only service allowing users to backup, store, access, share and sync from a single location with a unified interface.
