Socialmedia.com Holds First OpenThread Event & Opens Up Additional OpenSocial Networks to Advertisers

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 4 -- Socialmedia.com, the first social advertising network to monetize Facebook application traffic, is now allowing marketers to advertise within Orkut and Friendster applications. Hundreds of applications currently exist on Orkut and Friendster, with these two social networks reaching a combined global audience of 50MM+ unique users.

Orkut and Friendster are two of the social networks running the OpenSocial Platform, which allows developers to create applications that reside within each respective social network. Socialmedia.com's advertisements have already run on MySpace and Hi5, two other social networks that also support OpenSocial. Socialmedia.com's network now spans the largest consumer oriented OpenSocial networks, with the network reaching a combined global audience of over 35 million unique users.

To rally developer support for OpenSocial, Socialmedia.com created the OpenThread event. The event is designed to educate developers on how to create OpenSocial applications by providing the developer community with an interactive forum to learn from others. OpenThread connects developers with OpenSocial technical experts to help address application questions.

The first OpenThread event was held in San Francisco August 15th with representatives from Google's OpenSocial team on hand. "It's important for developers to have an interactive forum where they can learn from one another and plug into our OpenSocial technical team to help guide efforts," said Keynote speaker Lane LiaBraaten with Google Developer Programs. "The OpenThread event is an effective way for developers to get educated on how to create OpenSocial applications and listen to what's working and not working from other developers."
