Dr. J. Greg Hanson to Host Web Forum on Evaluating IT Security Return on Investment

VIENNA, Va., Dec. 4 -- Dr. J. Greg Hanson, Criterion Systems Executive Vice President, and former CIO for the U.S. Senate, will host an Information Management Forum on Wednesday December 10, 2008 at 2pm EST, on the cost trade-offs involved with implementing an information security strategy. Dr. Hanson will engage the group on the issue of determining the point of diminishing returns on cost versus capability in the world of IT. The focus of his discussion is a proprietary methodology for systematically evaluating the trade-off between cost and security value, called return on security investment (ROSI).

According to Dr. Hanson, "IT security has become a national security issue as critical systems are persistently and systematically threatened by various terrorist organizations. CIOs must make the right strategic investments to stay ahead of well funded adversaries." He added, "Our ROSI methodology is an effective tool for the CIO to quantify the security return expected from IT investments. Prior to joining Criterion, Dr. Hanson served as the first Chief Information Officer for the United States Senate where he was responsible for the technology vision and strategy for the Senate. Dr. Hanson is a respected international lecturer and author with numerous awards for leadership and professional excellence including a Fed 100 Award in 2005. He has been an active member of the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA), Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), Greater Washington Board of Trade, and Northern Virginia Technology Council. Dr. Hanson earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida, a Master's of Science degree in Information Systems from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, and a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is also an Adjunct Full Professor, teaching graduate information technology courses for the University of Maryland University College.
