The Synology(R) DS209+ Triumphs in Performance, Receiving the CNET Editors' Choice Award
REDMOND, Wash., Feb. 27 -- The Synology(R) DS209+ NAS device was put to the test recently in the CNET labs, receiving a 10 out of 10 for performance, and an "Excellent" overall rating, securing the CNET Editors' Choice award. The DS209+ is one of the latest additions to Synology's Disk Stations, offering customers an unbeatable mix of maximum performance, features and affordability.
"The Synology(R) DS209+ offers awesome throughput speed and nearly all the features you could ever need in a NAS server," says Dong Ngo of CNET. "The DS209+ was tested in both RAID 1 and RAID 0 configurations, doing well in both and topping the charts for performance by a remarkably large margin. This performance is achieved, in part, thanks to the DS209+'s new configuration, including an 800MHz Freescale CPU and 512MB of RAM (compared with the 500MHz Marvell CPU and 128MB of RAM for the DS107+). The specifications for the DS209+ are also higher than most of those used in consumer-grade NAS servers."
Disk Station Manager 2.0 now offers support for up to 10 IP cameras in the Surveillance Station and Cooliris 3-dimension browsing is integrated with Photo Station 3. Ngo was particularly impressed with how users can easily organize their photos using Photo Station 3 into albums and noted that it "may be the device's biggest selling point for home users." Additionally, the DSM 2.0 supports use for multiple types of Web-based servers including a Web server, MySQL server, file station server, and an audio station server.
"We are honored to receive the CNET Editors' Choice award for the DS209+," says Doug Self, Product Specialist at Synology America Corp. "The DS209+ is a fast and reliable NAS device that answers the desire for performance, RAID protection and an affordable way to manage digital assets. The beta program for the Synology Disk Station Manager 2.1 will be closing soon, with the official firmware being available for download on Synology's website in March. We are confident that the release of the new DSM 2.1 will further raise the bar for managing NAS devices," adds Self.
