CHICAGO & FOSTER CITY, Calif. - Jan. 14, 2004 - Server Central, a national provider of managed hosting, colocation and bandwidth wholesaling, and Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq:EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that Server Central has signed an expanded, multi-year agreement to host its operations at Equinix. The agreement doubles Server Central's current deployments within Equinix's Chicago, Washington, D.C. area, and San Jose Internet Business Exchange(TM) (IBX®) centers.
As a part of the agreement, Server Central will continue to utilize Equinix to host its IT operations that support the company's hosting colocation and bandwidth sales to businesses and consumers. Within Equinix's neutral Internet hubs, Server Central has access to a large selection of strategic partners, including every major network service provider and eight of the top ten Web properties. Establishing direct connections with these partners in the same physical location enables Server Central to reduce connectivity costs and enhance performance by eliminating intermediate transit to reach these partners in different locations. In addition, Equinix's centers offer industry-leading infrastructure, including high-performance security, power and temperature-control features, within a highly flexible environment.
Server Central is also using the Equinix Direct service to sell IP transit services to companies operating in the Washington, D.C. area and San Jose centers. Equinix Direct offers bandwidth sellers an aggregation of enterprises, content providers and other bandwidth buyers on a convenient and low-cost ordering, provisioning and settlement platform, providing a new channel to acquire revenue. The service enables IP networks to provide buyers with complete visibility into their branded offerings and SLAs.
"Equinix provides a unique data center infrastructure and many robust Internet exchange services that enable us to more efficiently provide premium hosting, colocation and connectivity services for all layers of our customer base," said Jordan Lowe, president of Server Central. "Equinix also allows us to situate our operations in one location near our key business partners, including the largest names in the Internet."
"Equinix continues to attract leading hosting and colocation companies, as well as systems integrators, who are looking for a more efficient means to provide the best levels of service to their customers," said Margie Backaus, chief business officer for Equinix. "In addition, Equinix's premium centers offer the greatest degree of flexibility for companies like Server Central to quickly scale operations to meet planned or unexpected growth in their business."
