WALTHAM, Mass.--BUSINESS WIRE--Today at VMworld 2010, Leostream Corporation, a leading developer of virtual
hosted desktop software, introduced Leostream
Connection Broker 7.0. The most widely deployed, vendor-independent
technology of its kind, the new release empowers IT to deliver an
optimal virtual desktop experience to end-users, one that encompasses
any kind of desktop or session delivered to endpoints that range from
laptops to thin-clients to handheld devices.
“For virtualization growth to continue, end-users need to trust that
their virtual desktops will perform reliably and provide the computing
performance they require, while IT administrators need streamlined,
‘single-pane-of-glass’ management for VDI”
With the release of the Connection Broker 7.0, Leostream now provides
tight integration with VMware® View™ and the high-performance
graphics capabilities of the soft PC over Internet protocol PCoIP, as
well as broad support for mobile devices including the Apple®
iPad™, iPhone™ and iPod Touch®. This new version also includes
additional VMware enhancements, Connection Broker cluster management
capabilities, desktop failover plans, and a number of other powerful
features that streamline the management of virtual
desktop infrastructure VDI.
“For virtualization growth to continue, end-users need to trust that
their virtual desktops will perform reliably and provide the computing
performance they require, while IT administrators need streamlined,
‘single-pane-of-glass’ management for VDI,” said Rachel Chalmers,
Research Director, Infrastructure Management at The 451 Group.
“Leostream Connection Broker 7.0 addresses these areas very effectively.
Furthermore, Leostream’s vendor-neutral approach can address C-level
concerns about achieving ROI in large-scale deployments, while
leveraging existing heterogeneous infrastructure.”
The Leostream Connection Broker enables IT managers to maximize the
value of existing IT investments by easily integrating an array of
clients, back-end systems and viewers to create a hosted VDI.
Additionally, the Connection Broker integrates easily with existing
network infrastructure with no changes to essential data center systems,
such as authentication services and SSL VPNs. Once integrated, the
Connection Broker provides a flexible set of policies for exact
implementation of business rules for system administrators, users, and
machines.
New features in the Leostream Connection Broker 7.0 include:
-
VMware View Support – Tight integration allows soft PCoIP
connections for View users who require high-performance graphics. This
also provides View administrators with the versatility of the
Leostream Connection Broker, letting them extend VDI to include a
variety of different platforms while providing users with a single
login to all resources.
-
Support for Apple iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch –
Through a partnership with HLW Software Development GmbH HLW, the
Leostream Connection Broker now works with the iTap Remote Desktop
Protocol iTap RDP and Virtual Network Computing iTap VNC clients,
allowing end-users access to Windows and Linux virtual desktops with
the popular Apple mobile devices. See recent press release, “Leostream
and HLW Form Partnership.”
-
USB Linux Support – USB redirect functionality is now available
to facilitate use of fully-functional Linux virtual desktops.
-
VMware Enhancements – Allows IT administrators to create linked
clones from snapshots of parent virtual machines, optimizing storage
and improving image management. Leostream provisioning with templates
extends VMware capabilities for data storage, and adds policy actions
that define desktop limits and control desktop deletion, while
improving capabilities for scaling a VDI. See press release also
announced today, “Leostream
Adds VMware Enhancements.”
-
Desktop Failover Plans – Ensures that a backup desktop is
offered to end users in the event that the primary one fails,
providing continuous, “anytime” access to desktops even during
datacenter failures.
-
Cluster Management – Offers a unified view of all Connection
Brokers in a cluster for simpler management of scaled VDI
environments. This provides IT with the flexibility to perform
consolidated actions on clusters, for example, modifying network
settings or setting time zones for all brokers simultaneously.
-
Improved OpenLDAP® Support – New
usability enhancements make for fast authentication of end users via
OpenLDAP.
“A connection broker is a key element in the management of a VDI, tying
desktop images in the data center to end-user devices. As such, we
continue to focus on offering the most robust vendor-independent
solution in this category, while building upon longtime relationships
with other industry leaders,” said Michael Palin, CEO of Leostream. “In
this way, we are able to help IT administrators earn the trust of
end-users and manage VDI more easily. It also gains the support of
C-level decision-makers who require the greatest ROI possible. The
Leostream Connection Broker ‘makes virtualization work’ for current
deployments, while providing the flexibility needed to scale and achieve
long-term goals.”
Leostream will be demonstrating the Connection Broker 7.0 during VMworld
2010, August 30 through September 2 at the Moscone Center in San
Francisco. Attendees can visit Leostream at booth #118, where they will
also be able to enter for a daily iPad giveaway.
