KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.----Devon IT, the fastest growing provider of thin client terminals and
innovators of the SafeBook™ thin client
notebook, today announced that it has worked with Mainline Information
Systems to implement a virtual server-based computing solution in
Staybridge Suites Hotel in Tallahassee, Florida, allowing the hotel to
realize the significant savings in cost and power.
Devon IT’s 6020B thin clients run in all 104
rooms of the hotel. Virtual server infrastructure provided by VMware
connects users to an IBM BladeCenter. Mainline Information Systems, a
Devon IT reseller, integrated the hotel’s
solution in February. The nature of the thin client server-based
computing model allows each guest to access the thin client in their
room, ensuring privacy for hotel guests while maintaining security for
the hotel.
“The success of Staybridge’s
server-based solution speaks to our increased role as the leader in thin
client computing,” says Joe Makoid, President,
Devon IT. “One IT professional can operate the
computing of the entire hotel from one central location in the data
storage unit, and the hotel has already experienced the financial and
energy savings that defines this model. This server-based method has
been successful in the financial, healthcare, and education verticals,
and we are proud to extend our innovative products and services to the
service and hospitality industries as well.”
Centralized maintenance and control, lower total cost of ownership, and
technology flexibility are among the other benefits that server-hosted
computers have to offer over traditional desktops. Staybridge now
consumes 70 percent less power with thin clients and is on pace to save
thousands of dollars. All guests also have Internet access at their
fingertips, making the hotel even more competitive.
“Staybridge Suites defines its IT strategy
around delivering the most advanced technology to its hotel guests,”
says Steve Cotton, General Manager, Staybridge Suites Hotel. “Thin
client computing with virtualized servers running on PC blades was the
most secure and cost-effective solution we could find. The tangible
benefits have far outweighed those of traditional PC models. With Devon
IT we are providing our guests industry-leading technology at a fraction
of the costs that we’ve paid in the past.”
“We are very proud to have worked with Devon
IT to provide Staybridge with this innovative computing solution,”
says Chris Minnis, Lead Architect of Virtual Client Solutions, Mainline. “Devon
IT is the industry leader in thin client computing. Their cost-effective
products provided the finishing touch in delivering Staybridge the
quality and security they needed at the price they wanted. We look
forward to working with them much more in the future.”
