RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.----Lenovo today introduced expanded ThinkVantage Technology®
TVT capabilities that help enterprise PC managers reduce the cost of
service delivery through remote access and control of PC-Doctor system
health software from Lenovo’s LANDesk®
Management Suite for ThinkVantage®
Technologies management console.
Developed through a collaborative effort by the three companies, Lenovo’s
new PC-Doctor for LANDesk solution is a system-health solution that
allows service managers to test PC hardware, remotely, over the network
-- either reactively when a problem is reported or proactively as part
of a regular health checkup.
“By preloading the new version of PC-Doctor
for LANDesk, we are combining our client management capabilities with
advanced remote diagnostics for customers who are looking for new and
expanded ways to manage service delivery costs,”
said Bob Galush, vice president, software and peripherals marketing. “This
tool will help customers reduce the number of costly and unnecessary
desk-side visits as well as provide important information on what
components need replacement before the dispatch of desk-side support is
made.”
“Many software issues can masquerade as
hardware issues, so it is a good practice to validate hardware before a
technician is dispatched – particularly for
large company campuses where each trip can exceed $100 in cost,”
added Doug van Aman, PC-Doctor’s chief
marketing officer.. “Now, thanks to these new
LANDesk for ThinkVantage and PC-Doctor capabilities exclusive to Lenovo,
diagnostics can be run remotely to avoid the expense of unnecessary
trips.
How It Works
Using PC-Doctor for LANDesk is easy: Just click on a specific computer
from the list of networked systems from within the LANDesk Management
Suite for ThinkVantage Technologies Console, and select PC-Doctor from
menu of capabilities. The LANDesk software then remotely launches the
PC-Doctor application on the target PC, without interrupting the user,
as well as the remote diagnostic interface on the management console.
From this view, the help desk gains real-time access to the complete
suite of Windows XP and Vista diagnostics and can test the CPU, memory,
motherboard, hard drive, CD-ROM and DVD drive, video and audio, keyboard
and mouse, and other hardware components. Additional capabilities
include PC-Doctor Direct System Information that provides detailed
information about the components used in the PC, and PC-Doctor Profiler
technology that tracks changes made to the system over time to aid the
diagnosis process.
After tests are run, the results are uploaded to the LANDesk database
for later review as well as providing auditing and tracking capability
on common system problems over time.
Availability
Lenovo’s PC-Doctor for LANDesk comes
preloaded on Lenovo ThinkCentre and ThinkPad PCs running Windows XP or
Vista for customers using LANDesk Management Suite for ThinkVantage
Technologies client software. The software is available for free through
the preload or Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update TVSU.
