RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.----Lenovo today unveiled its highest performing notebook PC, the new
ThinkPad T61p 15.4-inch widescreen mobile workstation notebook. The
notebook highlights Lenovo’s leadership in
providing powerful features essential for data-intensive workers and
those requiring 3D graphics applications. The notebook runs cooler,
quieter and more energy efficient than previous models, features a Top
Cover Roll Cage for extreme durability, layers security solutions with
full disk encryption, offers Linux certification and Ultra-Wideband
technology and comes equipped with the latest Intel processors for
optimum performance.
Lenovo also introduced the ThinkPad R61 15-inch standard and R61e
15-inch widescreen notebooks as well as discrete graphics capabilities
in ThinkPad T61 notebooks.
Built to Perform
The ThinkPad T61p raises the bar on performance with Lenovo’s
Ultra Connect II wireless design helping improve WWAN1
and WLAN 802.11n2 performance, new NVIDIA®
Quadro FX 57OM graphics certified to the open GL graphics GPU standard,
Intel® Centrino® Pro
mobile technology and long battery life with more control via Battery
Stretch. Users can even opt for next-generation wireless capabilities
with Ultra-Wideband. With Lenovo’s new cooling
system, the notebook runs three decibels quieter over previous models
and up to 10 percent cooler even under the most intensive tasks. Tops
for security, the notebook offers optional port disablement, 32-byte
password protection, an integrated fingerprint reader and full disk
encryption.
Certified to run applications of more than 20 independent software
vendors, the workstation is also certified to run the Novell®
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 operating system and is supported by
Lenovo’s Help Center for hardware issues. The
notebook is also certified to run Red Hat and Turbo Linux operating
systems.
“Technology is driving racing today in a new
way. AT&T Williams relies on Lenovo ThinkPad mobile workstations
everyday to power our team, whether it’s in
the garage or on the track, helping in everything from systems checks
before starting the car to monitoring fuel inputs," said Alex Burns,
chief operating officer, AT&T Williams. “For
us, a powerful and portable machine with fast wireless, incredible
processing speed and high-end graphics makes an important contribution
to beating the competition. Lenovo’s mobile
workstations help us do just that.”
Commitment to Green Computing
Lenovo offers a complete, industry-leading line of energy efficient
products that meet the new Environmental Protection Agency’s
Energy Star 4.0 standard, including notebooks in the ThinkPad T, R and X
Series such as the new ThinkPad T61p as well as the Lenovo 3000 N200 and
V200 notebooks. The new ThinkPad notebooks achieve up to a 70 percent
improvement in efficiency over previous generation notebooks with power
management features providing customers maximum energy savings up to 47
percent greater than before. These new notebooks are also rated silver
by the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool that
institutions use to evaluate, compare and select PC products based on
their environmental attributes. With Lenovo’s
design for the environment in mind, customers can now update their
previous ThinkPad notebook with Intel®
Centrino Pro or Intel® Centrino Duo mobile
technology to enable their system to meet the Energy Star 4.0 standard
through a few simple updates available for download via www.lenovo.com.
Lenovo is also rolling out updated Energy Star 4.0 desktops including
the ThinkCentre M55 in tower, desktop and small form factor along with
more new desktops in the next few weeks. The ThinkCentre M55 desktop
improves energy efficiency up to 52 percent over previous versions. The
desktop features an 80 percent efficient power supply for lower energy
costs and usage and less heat emissions, which help improve the
reliability of the power supply, decrease system maintenance and further
help extend PC life.
As a board member of the recently established Climate Savers Computing
Initiative, Lenovo is helping lead the effort to reduce the global
carbon footprint by providing energy efficient products and helping
power the industry toward higher efficiency standards.
